MATUKITUKI - a valley and river in Otago, New Zealand.

A spectacular Hei-Matau Hook sculpture. Hand carved by New Zealand Master Jade Carver, Artist and Teacher - Ric Moor.

We were fortunate to secure this piece from Ric when he was travelling North through the country. These pieces usually find homes in Galleries and Museums here in New Zealand, so it is very nice to have MATUKITUKI to offer.

Ric has used beautiful New Zealand Flower Jade for the Matau, and a deep grey New Zealand Basalt Stone for the base - this is quite a piece and will make an outstanding sculpture and discussion piece for your home.

We named this piece MATUKITUKI after a beautiful river valley that descends from the Main Divide through the Mount Aspiring National Park. The river is largely glacier fed and ends its fall from the mountains in Lake Wanaka - Otago's gateway to the Southern Alps.

The Main Divide is the birthplace of New Zealand Pounamu and the stone Ric has used for this piece is an outstanding example of the beauty of this rare jade.

The stand is made from a piece of Basalt stone that Ric finds on the beach in front of his house - we particularly like the form of the stand. It holds the sculpture beautifully and the dark grey offsets the colours in the pounamu beautifully.
