KA TOHE AU - I will Persevere
A spectacular sculptural Matau, carved by Kerry Thompson.
This is an outstanding artwork carved in New Zealand pounamu and argillite. The matau sculpture is presented on a stand made from a beautiful inanga pounamu - a rare and beautiful jade unique to New Zealand.
The shaft of the matau is carved in a swooping design from a pale grey argillite stone. Kerry has used a dual polish - parts a high shine and parts a soft matte - this lends the shape depth and a wonderful contrast that is picked up when the light strikes the shaft.
The barb is carved from a gorgeous, high quality piece of New Zealand Marsden jade which Kerry has buffed to a matte finish. The shaft and barb are bound together with a black cord - the effect is a striking combination of colour, shadow and light highlighting what is a superb sculptural piece by a Master carver and artist.
The base is in and of itself a work of beauty - New Zealand inanga pounamu polished to a soft shine, a tactile work of art!
KA TOHE AU is a large and eye-catching Matau - a fabulous display of New Zealand Jade and argillite at their finest. This Matau design has a wonderful flow and displays a great understanding, and use, of these two unique materials.
KA TOHE AU - ONE ONLY
KA TOHE AU is a fantastic showcase piece!
The Hook: The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
PLEASE NOTE: the hook slots into a brass rod that is fixed to the inanga stand. We have not glued this, preferring to leave it removable so that you can position the matau on the base in the position that you find most attractive.
We will include our 'Kia Ora' card, which explains the meaning behind the Matau/Hook design.
