ANITA BAY - This is a very unique piece - carved from New Zealand Tangiwai, a rare stone from New Zealand's South Westland. The colours are beautifully diverse, view the photos and video to truly appreciate the beauty of this piece.

ANITA BAY is carved from a fascinating piece of Tangiwai, a rare and interesting stone. Tangiwai is scarcer than jade, this stone comes from Jackson Bay, just south of Haast on New Zealand's West Coast. If you've ever travelled down to the South Western corner of New Zealand, the home of this marvellous stone, you'll appreciate the beauty of this region - and this is a little piece of that magic!

Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, 'tears of sorrow'. 

Aaron Tabak, a new artist for us, we are very impressed with the quality of his carving, particularly his faultless finish. ANITA BAY is a fine example of this - he has given the stone a mirror polish - only possible when working with high quality stone and applying an enormous attention to detail. This is best seen in the brief video we have taken of the piece revolving.

ANITA BAY is a beautiful piece of traditional jewellery, suspended from a 3-plait tan/black adjustable cord.

The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.

The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
