WHARE TOKI a beautiful, large Toki made from New Zealand Tangiwai Pounamu. The artist called this piece 'WHARE TOKI' - a reference to the stand, he has cut and polished from the same stone the toki is carved from. Wear it and love it... and place it back in its mother stone when not in use. A beautiful pendant and an imposing sculptural piece in one!
Like all pounamu, this stone calls to be touched. This piece will become a connector to the earth's timeless spirit.
Tangiwai is the most ancient form of pounamu and takes its name from the Māori 'tangi' - to cry and 'wai' - water, 'tears of sorrow'. It is the perfect stone for this marvellous pendant.
Dark and mysterious, this is a standout piece of stone, beautifully carved and finished. Aaron is a new artist for us and we are particularly impressed with the quality of his work. WHARETOKI is a fine example of this - he has given the stone a mirror polish - only possible when working with high quality jade and applying an enormous attention to detail. This is best seen in the brief video we have taken of the piece revolving.
This piece is suspended from a 3-plait tan/black adjustable cord.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
The TOKI pendant will be delivered packaged in a woven kete pouch.
We also include one of our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Toki design.
