TE KAITUTEI - The Watchman

Hand carved by Andrew Doughty

This beautiful Manaia is carved from natural stained bone with eyes inlaid in Pāua Shell. and a wonderful Opal insert in the centre of the koru.

TE KAITUTEI holds more than one material... Opal, Pāua Shell and Brass. These materials have been included to provide a connection to the physical world and to the spiritual realm. A full description of the carving's meaning is provided from the artist.

Andrew has paired this lovely double manaia with a Dark Brown adjustable cord and Brown popper.

TE KAITUTEI has two Manaia which are interconnected. This symbolises the interconnected nature of the physical and spiritual worlds. Andrew has decorated these pieces with a lot of carved detail which carries specific and intimate significance for the artist - a carving with meaning beyond that normally associated with this style of Manaia.

Included in your package is a note of the carving from the artist.

The KORU in the centre represents all our inner potentials. The Koru symbolises new growth and the unfolding and manifesting of these wonderful potentials.

The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.

The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’.  The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.

Shipping is included in the price.

This pendant will be on a hand plaited adjustable cord.

We will also include our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explains the meaning behind the Manaia and Koru designs.
