FIN OF MOANA

FIN OF MOANA - an absolutely stunning contemporary whale tail pendant carved for us by Shaun Gardiner.

Shaun has used a gorgeous, semi-translucent piece of pounamu with a wonderful inner life. Hold this piece up to the light and you will see the distinctive splash of mineral inclusions that make this stone so unique! We have backlit the second photo to show this beautiful stone.

Hand carved by New Zealand carver Shaun Gardiner, this is an exceptional piece both in the execution, but also in the quality of the jade.

The average whale can hold its breath for about 60 minutes, but some can stay down for over 2 hours on one breath! In these days we all need to hang in there waiting for things to look up - this little guy will support you through the deeper waters and bring you up to the light for a little fresh air.

The koru design is an integral symbol in Maori art forms. The spiral is a Koru, which represents the fern frond as it opens bringing with it new life and purity - a fresh beginning. It is a symbol of peace, tranquillity and spirituality.

The koru is also associated with nurturing, so is frequently used to represent the strength and purity of a loving relationship within a family.

The WHALE has quite some significance in Polynesian cultures. Here in New Zealand whales are believed to be descendants of Tangaroa - the God of the Oceans. They are regarded as sacred and supernatural beings and are believed to provide guidance and protection.
