MATARIKI TOKI

This is quite the little work of art. MATARIKI TOKI is carved from Mother of Pearl and has a beautiful 'Sleeping Beauty' Turquoise inlay alongside Brass and Silver matariki star pattern. The design is inspired by the Pleiades star cluster in the southern sky and the beginning of the New Year in the Māori lunar calendar.

Underlying are the three key principles of Matariki:

• Matariki Hunga Nui – Remembrance. A time to reflect and honour loved ones who have passed since the last rising of Matariki. We acknowledge their lives, stories, and the legacy they leave behind, strengthening our connections to the past.

• Matariki Ahunga Nui – Celebrating the Present. A season of gratitude and togetherness, where we gather with whānau and community to give thanks for the blessings we have. It is a time to share kai, stories, and joy in the here and now.

• Matariki Manako Nui – Looking to the Future. As the Matariki stars shine brightly, we turn our hopes and dreams toward the coming year. This is a time to set intentions, embrace new beginnings, and prepare for the growth and opportunities ahead.

The neck cord is in its own right a little work of art! A hand plaited, spiralled cord in brown that is a fixed length with a Paua Shell Toggle.

MATARIKI TOKI is a very cool piece. It has clean lines, is silky smooth and is exquisitely hand made from a fantastic New Zealand artist. He has carved this with the flair that you would expect to find in his work - and his craftsmanship is flawless.
