AROHA PŪORO (Love Melody) - a hand carved, engraved Bone Flute. Play the music of love....
This Māori flute is called a Kōauau. It is carved from the leg bone of a deer in a very simple and conventional design. This is a deeply traditional Māori instrument, revered for its connection to both nature and ancestry. Adorned with intricate traditional designs on one side, it serves as both a musical tool and a work of art, producing evocative, melodic tones that tell stories of heritage and emotion.
Kōauau are carved tubes, traditionally made from bone or wood, and open at both ends. They are usually somewhere between 10 and 20cm long (4 - 8 inches) and have between three and six finger holes drilled through the bore - this one has three holes. When air is gently blown across the end opening it swirls inside the flute producing a soft, haunting sound.
AROHA PŪORO is carved from natural deer bone. It is a decorative, display piece but is fully functional.
