Hand carved by Shaun Gardiner - a manaia with koru pendant. The jade is beautiful - you can see the stone best in the photos and in the video.

Shaun has incorporated a koru spiral in the tail, combining a couple of shapes well-known in the South Pacific, and giving it an interesting symbology:

The Manaia: a mythical being believed to be the invisible light, or aura, surrounding a person. They represent spiritual power and are believed to be the guide that leads the spirits to heaven. They are worn to guide and protect.

The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’. The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.

We will provide CURIOSITY with a black cord which is length adjustable and packaged in a woven kete pouch.

We will also include our 'Kia Ora' cards, which explain the meaning behind the Manaia and Koru designs.
