KIA TAU TE RANGIMARIE KI A KOUTOU is the work of Andrew Doughty - he has crafted a stunning Matau from New Zealand jade.

Fishing was a sacred activity for early māori - the ability to feed family gave mana, so the fish hook became a symbol of the ability to provide and sustain. This particular piece has been carved with this history driving the artist's hands.

The Hook:  The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.
