A New Zealand Argillite whale tail with engraved Koru, hand carved by Rueben Tipene. This is a gorgeous piece, carved from a beautiful dark grey piece of Argillite Stone.

The material is as dark and mysterious as the whale it represents!

The whale is synonymous with friendship, loyalty, trust and kindness. They have quite some significance in Polynesian cultures. Here in New Zealand they are believed to be descendants of Tangaroa - the God of the Oceans. They are regarded as sacred and supernatural beings and are believed to provide guidance and protection. 

SOULFUL SEA is a touching representation of these sentiments, a beautifully carved piece of art, from an exceptional artist.
