The Hei-Matau design represents abundance while the Koru represents love... NUAGE is born!

Ric has used a remarkable piece of New Zealand Flower Jade for this pendant. The real beauty of this stone is its consistent deep green colour with a splash of orange on one side - wear it either side to enjoy the unique colouring of orange that Flower Jade is prized for. It is classed as pounamu because of the high regard that Māori have for this stone. They recognise its rare beauty and have long used it to make tools, weapons and jewellery.

NUAGE is a beautifully carved and striking work of art. Ric is very generous with stone when he carves. This is particularly evident with this piece - it has plenty of depth and body, feels great in the hand, NUAGE is a nice substantial pendant.

NUAGE is a carefully thought through carving - the following history sits behind this pendant...

The Koru: the Māori word for 'loop'. The spiral shaped koru design represents an unfolding silver fern frond. The circular movement towards an inner coil refers to ‘going back to the beginning’.  The unfurling frond itself is symbolic of new life, new beginnings, hope and rebirth.

The Hook:  The wearer of a Hei-Matau is seen as a provider and protector who is strong willed and determined to succeed in life - what a lovely sentiment to gift to someone important to you.

The shape is streamlined, gloriously curved and quite unique. Take a look at the video and you will appreciate the artistry of this beautiful piece.
