A striking, creative and complex piece carved for us by Kyohei Noguchi. ESCAPE ARTIST typifies what we love about Kyohei's work - a very finely executed take on a traditional design - beautifully carved!

ESCAPE ARTIST is a carved representation of the möbius strip - discovered by German mathematicians August Möbius and Johann Listing in 1858. These are a difficult shape to carve and Kyohei has added another layer to one side, increasing the complexity and adding a visual dimension that sets this piece apart.

The principle of this ribbon is that it has only one side and one boundary, it is non-orientable.

ESCAPE ARTIST is lovingly packaged in a woven kete pouch.

These carvings represent the many paths followed in life and love and are regarded as an eternity symbol.

The first and third photos show ESCAPE ARTIST backlit, you'll see how wonderful the stone is.

Take a moment to view the video - this shows the fine carving and the subtle turns that are central to this very clever design.

Kyohei has finished ESCAPE ARTIST in a soft matte polish, it glows but doesn't reflect and will take on a beautiful colour over time with wear.
